Situation
Located 9 km west of Gladstone, Orica Yarwun’s facility manufactures products used in Queensland mining operations, as well as national and international mining industries. Locally manufactured products include nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, and sodium cyanide. The Yarwin facility required support to upgrade and expand their ammonia nitrate plant.

Solution
This facility had previously engaged Simmons Civil on various other projects, so due to their ongoing relationship, availability, and capabilities, Simmons Civil were engaged to provide civil construction services.
Orica Yarwun needed to construct a large concrete slab to seal up the existing roadbase material that was previously used to store chemical containers. This included two acres of concrete and covered the concrete construction and associated plumbing and earthworks.
The project was completed on schedule 4 months after starting.
